Jardin d’Automne is Shizico Yi’s latest body of work, a study of cut flowers gathered from her garden. Preserving the final vibrant days of the last summer, she continues painting en plein air, then arranges summer’s blooms alongside autumn berries to carry their beauty into the studio.
This series becomes both tribute and document of life’s passing moments. Through painting, she is bringing the landscape alive on canvas, season by season.
In this series, she also explores the dialogue of primary colours—in this painting, red and yellow, exploring how they meet, how they carry and move with each other; also she explores the medium of impasto which enhances the vivid brushstrokes with a three-dimensional surface. By sculpting the florals into textured forms, the paintings further capture the energy and vibrancy on canvas.
It is also a part of 3 sisters series, a celebration of womanhood and sisterhood inspired by artist's life with her family.

About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
