Night Roses-Rosarian, 2026 is Shizico Yi's latest work, inspired by her new rose garden with a nod to the visual language of Japanese woodblock print.
In this series, Yi further explores the possibilities of impasto vs gold leaf.
Thick, sculptural brushstrokes with gold leaf animate the surface of the oil paper, giving the view a tactile presence and enhancing its vitality and storytelling. The textured paint and gold leaf captures both the physical energy of Yi's distinctive and confidant brushstrokes, creating not only a work of study for the series but also a stand-alone unique painting.
Through layers of impasto, gold leaf and expressive brushwork, Shizu's Rosarian series reflects on the ways artistic inheritance is sustained by reinterpretation of the traditions both on the Japanese sensitivity and the genre of landscape painting; also by the act of painting, turning impermanence of seasonal blooms into timeless memory on papers.

About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
