Dusk to Dawn is one of Shizico Yi's on-going project- Primary Colour Vs Yellow- Sunlit Series, inspired by Japanese Woodblock Print and the a nod to calligraphy tradition, the work reimagines an East–West dialogue through contemporary painting.
Painting Sunlight as its shadowy forms: This painting is a continuation of Shizico Yi's "Sunlit Series" started in 2023, this Sunlit Series has developed around the colour yellow, which Yi regards as a restorative and healing energy, particularly after the long, dark winters of the UK.
In Dusk to Dawn, gold leaf becomes an extension of yellow itself. The painting was created across two moments in time: first at dusk, with Yi facing east as the sun set behind her, casting elongated shadows of dahlia leaves; then again at dawn, facing west as the rising sun filtered through trees, creating dappled, transient light. These temporal shifts are embedded into the surface of the work.
This body of work sits within Yi’s ongoing “Golden Period”, a long-term and sustained investigation into yellow as a colour of solace, memory, and renewal.
Dusk to Dawn stands as a quiet meditation on time, grief, and the intimate bond between the artist, her garden, and the materials she works with — a visual poem suspended between night and morning.

About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
