these are a part of Shizico Yi's Sunlit project started in 2023, which was inspired by Japanese woodblock Print and the a nod to calligraphy tradition, also, Shizico develops her visual language with and around the colour of yellow, hence the use of gold leaf.

More about the paintings:

Shizico Yi created a series of plein air paintings in 2023 and continuing the series in every spring to autumn every year. This "Sunlit Series" meticulously crafted on all mediums, gold leaf gilding on her brushstrokes captured within a restrained palette of yellow, and mono palettes for each painting.

With strokes of gold, gesso and oil and acrylic, she orchestrates a symphony of artistic abstract expression artworks; the golden hues engage in a dialogue with the layers of landscape. The interplay of these contrasting elements upon the textured surface of gold leaves adds yet another layer of tactile fascination.

This Sunlit Series nestles within her "Golden Period," a profound exploration centred around the captivating hue of yellow.

It is a colour she believes having the healing power for those afflicted by grief.

The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject (the deeper meaning of her garden), and the artist herself.

About the Artist

Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .

With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.

Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
